Mark Tait, Funeral Director

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Like many of our staff, Mark Tait knew friends who worked in funeral service for years before he joined the industry himself and he observed how rewarding and interesting the role could be. He made the switch from warehousing a few years ago, and came to join us at Little’s Family Funeral Service in October 2021. He shares what he enjoys about his work as a Funeral Director below.

What do you like about working for an independent funeral service business?

I like that I can offer a more personal service having been involved from the start and through every stage of arranging the service to the day of the funeral itself and beyond. I feel you build a rapport with families, which is important. And being a small team, when a family gets in contact with us, they are always dealing with a familiar face.

What do you enjoy/find meaningful about your role?

I enjoy meeting families from all different backgrounds, all with their own stories. If I can help make what is often the most difficult and upsetting time of someone’s life a little bit easier then it’s all worth it to me.

What is something you’re proud of?

Something I’m proud of is still being able to provide a high level of service throughout the worst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic when funerals were so restrictive. It involved being innovative as we had to work around restrictions, trying to give families their wishes as much as we could while following the rules.

Who do you look up to (can be work-related or just in general) and why?

Someone I look up to is Muhammad Ali because apart from his sporting achievements, he was someone who stood up for what he believed under so much pressure and persecution.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with friends and family.
