Conor O’Neill, Funeral Service Operative

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Conor O’Neill joined us as a Funeral Service Operative in August 2021. Originally working in customer service for British Gas, he was inspired to make a career change by one of his close friends who is a funeral director. Deciding he had what it took to offer this important service to families, he decided to make the move and has never looked back. Find out more about what the role means to him below.

What do you like about working for an independent funeral service/family business?

I like working for an independent funeral service as we have a fairly small team and therefore a better team mentality than some larger businesses, I think, as we need to work so closely with each other daily. I also feel that we can provide a more personal experience as the families we work with will have the same point of contact from beginning to end and that familiar face makes a difficult time that little bit easier.

What do you enjoy/find meaningful about your role?

I like knowing that I am helping to take care of families during one of the most difficult times of their life and also taking care of the deceased with the dignity and respect they deserve. I also like that no two days are the same and the job keeps you on your toes.

What is something you’re proud of?

I pride myself on the fact I am very family orientated; I will drop everything for my family, if required, and they all know I am there for them at any time. I am always looking to improve myself, both professionally and personally and consider myself a very ambitious person. I consider myself a very approachable and likeable person. I get along with almost everyone and that has been shown with previous employers and colleagues too.

Who do you look up to (can be work-related or just in general) and why?

My dad is one of the biggest influences on my life. He is a hard worker and always puts family before himself. Just by observing him when I was growing up, he instilled a great work ethic in me. I also appreciate how he backs and supports me in everything that I do; for that, I am eternally grateful.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love football. I don’t play as much as I used to or would like to but still now and then. I have a season ticket, so I attend almost all games barring an emergency. I also enjoy going to the gym as it’s a great way to de-stress. And I like to make as much time as possible for my family. I check in with everyone fairly regularly just to make sure everyone is doing ok. I love hosting friends and family at my house for parties and special occasions or in the summer months hosting BBQs.
